I don't know how other writers feel about their covers but I know mine make me do a happy dance!
My advice - find a sensational, talented, awesome cover artist and build an idea that turns into something wonderful!
If you feel lost as to how you should do that just start opening books at the store, (or on your bookshelf/Kindle library, real library, etc) and look at the names of the artists that draw your interest.
Search out your desired cover artist on the internet and cross your fingers that they aren't too busy.
